Drouhin Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc 2017, Chardonnay Wine

Drouhin Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc 2017, Chardonnay Wine

Origin: France - Burgundy
Characteristics: Joseph Drouhin 2009 Chassagne-Montrachet | 13% | From the renowned vine clad village of Chassagne-Montrachet in the Côte des blancs in the south of the Côte de Beaune of Burgundy and the tranquility of the 2009 vintage, this combines the charm of calm with the verve of Chassagne. Mid slope vineyards ensure the best of every vintage and this is no exception. Fragrant and florid even down to its flavorsome impact on the palate, this is a pure and shining example of not only the angelic power of Chassagne-Montrachet but the clear interpretation when fostered by the hands of Drouhin –an elegant house nonpareil. Despite all its creamy cedar and blossom, verve and texture, the minerality of Chassagne-Montrachet comes through clearly suggesting I have pulled the cork at a lovely time in its development. A deft balance makes quite the impression and perhaps it is for 12 months in (25% new) oak barrels. For table talk, the Drouhins tell us how the name Chassagne comes from "cassanos" a Celtic word used for a place where oak trees grow while the "rachet" means a poor, dry, infertile soil, “a paradox when thinking of the richness of the Chassagne-Montrachet wines!” I can only imagine what this might express on a Fruit or Flower day –such a marvelous wine here and now.
Wine review by Nicholas Livingston, April 22, 2014 (Leaf)

"A generous and elegant wine. Light golden colour. Intense nose of flower, brioche and candied lemon aromas, evolving towards nuances of grilled hazelnut and spice as the wine matures. On the palate, the wine is straightforward, with a nice texture and finesse. It has a long aftertaste where floral and gingerbread notes dominate".

Expert Review
88 Points - "A very ripe nose features notes of resin and yellow orchard fruits that marry into rich and voluminous flavors that possess a textured mouth feel, all wrapped in a finish brimming with extract, indeed to the point that
there is an almost chewy and rustic aspect to the slightly warm finale." 2013+

Paetra Gewurztraminer Van Duzer Corridor 2019
Characteristics: Concentrated Chehalem Mountain Riesling from the single vineyard "Nicholas" comprised of silt on basalt that winemaker Bill Hooper credits for its thick skins and potency. Fragrant and exotic with a glorious spice I've never had this side of the Vosges. Another cracking wine from this upcoming winegrower handcrafting Riesling in this superlative category in which the fruit is in the best condition and every step of the craft is minimal but the most mindful. I am a thorough fan.
Wine review by Nicholas Livingston, September 3rd, 2015

"This dry Single Vineyard Nicholas Riesling was produced by hand-sorting in the vineyard only the ripest and healthiest bunches. The silt-over-basalt soils bring thick skins and an enormous concentration of tropical fruit flavors and aromas. The wine fermented at cool temperatures for over eight months without the addition of cultured yeast in neutral oak barrels. It will reward many years of cellaring. Only 45 cases produced."

Tablas Creek Cotes de Tablas Blanc 2017
Characteristics: Tablas Creek 2012 Esprit de Tablas Blanc, Paso Robles | 24% Viognier, 30% Marsanne, 30% Grenache Blanc, 6% Roussanne | An organic estate wine from northern Rhône varieties Firm and fragrant –quite mineral in an upright structure| 100% stainless steel but on its lees until bottling lending a wonderful breadth and mouthfeel through the finish. Granache Blanc was never before seen or planted in the states before Tablas Creek brought it over and pioneered the variety from their nursery. Melon, orange, firm apricots and peaches, a gentle fragrance but certainly reflected on the palate. A truly elegant daresay French scope on a gifted, Biodynamically dry farmed plot of American soil –and an incredible wine.
